Graveside services for Gerald Wayne Guess, 83, of Decatur, will be 2 pm Saturday, October 15, at Clark Cemetery in Weatherford, officiated by Reverend Clyde Noakes. Gerald passed away October 9, 2022, in Decatur, Texas.
Pallbearers will include Gary Guess, Michael Winn, Walter Harvey, Lance Corporal Joseph Fischer, USMC, Ret., Clinton Winn, Grayson Guess, Mark Myars, and Maj. Justin Goble, ARNG.
Gerald was born July 23, 1939, in White Settlement, Texas, to Lawrence and Vivian Guess. He believed that each man has a duty to make life better, not just for himself, but for everyone, devoting the last 62 years of his life to the Masonic Lodge, ultimately achieving the status of Master Mason. Gerald also served his fellow man as a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Reno, Texas. His professional life was that of a retail manager and, when his schedule allowed, enjoyed spending his free time in the outdoors, either fishing or golfing with his wife, Sue.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Sue Caffey Guess, whom he married January 20, 1957, in Marietta, Oklahoma; son Gary Wayne Guess and wife Amy; daughters Rebecca Dawn Guess Winn and husband Michael, Alana Michele Guess Harvey and husband Walter; sister-in-law Carol Jo Caffey; grandchildren Clinton Winn and wife Holli, Alissa Goble and husband Maj. Justin Goble, Lance Corporal Joseph Fischer, USMC, Ret. and wife Carol, Sara Harvey Robinson, Gabrielle Guess and fiancé Michael Johnson, Grayson Guess, Caroline Shellenberger, Audrey Shellenberger, and Alex Shellenberger; great-grandchildren Maddox Winn, Sage Schwerman, Randle Goble, Qwynn Goble, Pax Goble, Jocelyn Fischer, Coe Fischer, Nick Robinson, Cayte Robinson, and Joel Robinson.
